International tournament in New Zealand, February 2011

Chris Bishop writes:

Dear friends

The New Zealand Schools' Debating Council is looking to organise an international WSDC-style tournament in New Zealand in early/mid February 2011, to help fill the gap between WSDC 2010 in Qatar and WSDC 2011 in Dundee.

Plans are at an early stage, but we're looking for expressions of interest from the community now about what countries would be interested in coming to New Zealand to take part, so we can get planning.

Our intention is for the tournament to be a tour of the North Island of New Zealand, with debating taking place in a variety of cities and towns around the island. The tournament would start in either Auckland (the largest city) or Wellington (the capital) and finish in the other. There would be a range of sight-seeing activities built into the programme in New Zealand's many tourist hot-spots.
The tournament would consist of 8-10 preliminary rounds in WSDC format, followed by, depending on the number of teams, knock-out rounds building to a final.

Registration for the tournament would be around $700 - 1000 NZD per person which would cover 8-10 nights accommodation, most meals, and travel around the island.

If your country is interested in taking part in the tournament or learning more, then please contact me on the details below.

Kind regards

Christopher Bishop
