The knock-out rounds always see clashes of very good and deserving teams. Commiserations to those no longer competing, you all did your respective countries proud!

On an interesting point...once 4-time champions are now out during the octos this time (quarters last year). Are we seeing the end of the Aussie domination?

let's hope so (for the competition's sake!)

Lets hope that by Athens, these bloggers will have found another team - other than the Aussies - to pick on. Perhaps England - or maybe even the Kiwis. These are kids debating for their country and should not have to be subjected to these kinds of comments. Well done to all teams and good luck to everyone - especially England!

Is it success that breeds such comments? Why shouldn't a country have a succesful run? Why should the current Australian team suffer such derisive statements?

There are some sad and jealous individuals!

Congratulations to all the teams, even the countries who own the people who have produced such negative blog comments

oh calm down. nobody is picking on Australia. Anonymous 1 speculated that we may be seeing the end of Aussie domination. He made no comment about whether that was good, or bad. He did not insult the current Australian team, or past or present teams.

Anonymous 2 said "let's hope so (for the competition's sake). presumably he means that it was getting boring watching Australia win all the time, and it is a better competition now that other teams are just as competitive. Again, that's not insulting to Australia - their team, or anyone else.

Stop being so precious.

I am afraid you are wrong in the Round 1 & 2 results blog the following was written

"It's great to see Australia downing powerhouses like Estonia. I like a comp whose draw and make up effectively negates the need for power pairing."

I wonder if it was the same person who is writing these shameful comments. As Clair said Keep sending positive vibes and messages" and as Thumper from Bambi said "If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all."

Err, the comment that ""It's great to see Australia downing powerhouses like Estonia. I like a comp whose draw and make up effectively negates the need for power pairing"

is a comment about the draw, not Australia.

Stop seeing things that aren't there.

Nah, different people. I do wonder if a different training process is needed for team Australia though...

Hi, I'm the infamous, original "anonymous" and I'd just like to clarify what I said about Australia.

I attended WSDC in 2007, and found the Aussies to be one of the friendliest teams in the competition. It goes without saying that any team with such a record deserves the recognition for their (and their coaches'!) hard work.

Its just that things get a little repetitive and a little frustrating when one team wins all the time. That's nothing against Australia - its just that what makes a tournament exciting (as I found out in 2007) is seeing teams in the break rounds that aren't usually thee, and most importantly the feeling all the way through that "it's all up for grabs" (not that it's a done deal with another Australian victory). Before the final of Singapore vs Scotland, genuinely noone would put their money on either team, and I couldn't help but feel this magic might have been absent in other tournaments.

The most interesting comment is

"..... I do wonder if a different training process is needed for team Australia though...".

What makes you say that?

LOL. The training comment probably came from someone who applied for - but didn't get the job!

The Australia team coach was uncontested, and the coach is excellent. As I'm sure he would admit himself, training is not ideal. This year the Australia team didn't really have any time for much of a training process at all. Other teams trained for months. This is self-evidently a problem.

I WAS only joking when I wrote the coach comment!!! I know that the coach has excellent credentials and is well respected by all.

Australia chose themselves to have their National Champs very close to the tournament. The real problem is that constantly shifting dates of Worlds (the next one is only 5 months away), South Korea was meant to be February 2007 but became July, Wales 2006 had issues with dates as well) - the last few years have been most unsatisfactory in that sense. I understand amendments have been made to the WSDC Constitution to ensure such things do not happen again.

It's great to see how many countries of whom you mightn't have expected that they reach the octofinals have achieved so much.

Congratulations to all of the teams.
