Debates begin in about half an hour.
We saw some fabulous quarter final debates today, folks, at the Chung Ang University. Apart from those eliminated teams who bravely got out of bed at 6:30 am in time for the early breakfast and were on the buses at 8 am to cheer for the 8 teams still in the competition, there were no audiences, a hitherto unknown experience for WSDC but the norm at this tournament (more about that some other time.) The nice thing about the University was the cafeteria - we had to pay for our own lunch but at least it was nourishing and nutritious for a change, just what stressed debaters really need.
Some exceptionally good teams lost today. Spare a thought for Australia -
there will now be a new world champion. We'll know who that is tomorrow.

thanks Claire....Jeremy Rich's Dad Peter here....such a shame to hear of their loss today...and on a split...but that's debating. Did J speak do you know??
Excellent - shame there is not a web cast so we can see the debate. Well done England and everyone.
Best wishes
Adrian Thomas
This is a fabulous blog Claire - Irene let me know you were keeping it, and I've been following avidly at work, and am on a campaign to interest my colleagues in debating too - with some degree of success!
If you can pass on my very best wishes to the Scottish team, I'd be v. grateful.

Well Kirsty, you'll no doubt be excited about the result. Tell your friends and spread the word!
Hi Jeremy's Dad.
The Australians in the quarters were Kelly Butler, James Wilson and Kaerlin McCormick. I didn't see them in the quaters but saw them in round 1 - I thought they were excellent.
I'm delighted, and allowed myself a small dance around my desk this morning when I heard the result!
Do you know who was speaking on the team in the semis (and any others you care to remember...)
A group of us in Scotland are keeping each other updated as results appear, and I'm posting some of the info (draws etc) on the SSDC (Scottish Students Debating Council) message board too.
Do you have an idea of when tomorrow morning the final will be taking place? I'm devoid of internet access at home, but would like to be able to cheer them on anyway!
Kirsty
Hi Claire,
Thanks for keeping us all up to date. We're cheering on the Singapore team (from our corner of south Texas) and want to send best wishes to all the debaters.
Kind regards,
Pat
Oooooh Scots v English nothing like some friendly rivalry!
